A climbing vine from China with feather-veined simple leaves and a brown, hairy fruit about 3" long. The flesh is emerald green with many small seeds and the flavor is pleasant, slightly acid, and juicy. It grows well in California and New Zealand but cannot stand salt exposure and is susceptible to nematodes.
